The Star

Twinkle - twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are!
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.

When the blazing sun is gone,
When there nothing shines upon.
Then you show your little light,
Twinkle-twinkle all the night;

Then the traveller in the dark,
Thanks you for your tiny spark.
He could not see which way to go,
If you did not twinkle so;

As your bright and tiny spark,
Lights the traveller in the dark.
Though I know not what you are,
Twinkle- twinkle little star.



1.  Listen and repeat

Listen to the following words and repeat them aloud:

2.  Read and learn

1)  Learn the poem and recite in the class.

2)  Read the following poem and compare it with the poem you have read, which one do you like better and why?
Twinkle - twinkle little bat,
How I wonder what you are at!
Up above the world so high,
Like a tea tray in the sky.
Ans. - (1) The above mentioned poem is based on a bat while the poem, we have read belongs to star.
(2) The poet says that the bat looks like a tea-tray, while in the poem we have read, the poet tells us that, the twinkling star looks like a diamond.

3.  Comprehension questions

1)  Fill in the blanks and complete the poem:
When the blazing sun is gone.
 When there nothing shines upon.
Then you show your little light.
Twinkle - twinkle all the night.
Then the traveller in the dark.
Thanks you for your tiny spark.

2)  Answer the following questions:

Ans. - When the sun sets down, it becomes dark and nothing shines upon the sky, then only the stars show their little twinkling light at night.

Ans. - He thanks to stars for their tiny sparks, because in absence of this light, the traveller cannot see which way to go.

Ans. - Bright and tiny spark of star lights the traveller in the dark.

4.  Let's talk

Work in pairs. One of you is travelling by train. The other one is the clerk on the enquiry counter. Talk about arrival and departure of your train.

Clerk          - At 9:30 p.m., Sir.
Traveller    - When does it depart?
Clerk          - At 9:45 p.m., Sir.
